The choice of Federation or Klingon has been made for us... based on this video interview with one of the head honchos at Cryptic, the Klingon Empire will be PvP_only at launch. No missions, no stories, just PvP. So it would be a side venture for us, if anything. Here is the video: http://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com/?p=1521 Skip to 36:30 for confirmation on this. Disappointing but ya know... maybe this means more work has been done to make the UFP aspect stronger. Pirates of the Burning Sea had the luxury of basically offering the same generic quests to all factions since they were all humans. But Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force would likely handle identical situations in very very different ways. Who knows? Thoughts?

Unless otherwise specified, items are available to every character in a player’s account and are mostly used during a character’s early development. None of these items are trade-able. NX Prefix This renowned ship registration prefix designates a special prototype vessel. Players can attach this prefix to the title of any of their ships. Targ/Tribble A Targ is a cosmetic pet for Klingon characters only that a player can summon and dismiss at will. The Tribble when summoned increases a Federation character’s healing rate, though it cannot be summoned during combat. A character will take out his Tribble and pet it. Borg Bridge Officer Each character created receives a reclaimed Borg Bridge Officer to assist him in space and on the ground. The Borg Bridge Officer possesses unique abilities not otherwise available to players. Bridge Officers can serve with the players for the entire game experience. These special Officers are not customizable. Constitution Class Ship Shortly after the tutorial, a player assumes command of a ship. A player can choose either a standard Miranda class or this exclusive, theConstitution class ship. Players fly around in a non-customizable replica of the TOS ship beloved for decades. Players control this ship for roughly 20 hours before being promoted into the next class of ship. Skill Points Each character created receives an additional 500 skill points at the beginning of gameplay. That’s a 38 percent increase over what players normally receive through the tutorial. Joined Trill At character creation, a player can select Trill as a race. This unlocks special exclusive traits that enhance the character’s abilities. Note that the special abilities are the only exclusive aspect; players are still able to create Trills in the game. However, they will lack the Trill abilities. DS9 Costumes Players can clothe their Federation characters in the uniforms made famous in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine TV series. Players can freely change the colors of the uniform. TOS Costumes Players can clothe their Federation characters in the uniforms made famous by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in the classic Star Trek: The Original Series. Players can freely change the colors of the uniform. Also note: The TOS costumes do include mini-skirts! Neodymium Deflector Dish This ship item is goes into a ship’s deflector dish slot. The Neodymium Dish grants a bonus to Auxiliary power, boosting maneuverability and increasing the effectiveness of all of your ship's Science abilities. Chromodynamic Armor This ground item goes into a character’s body armor slot. Based on technology brought back from the Delta Quadrant by U.S.S. Voyager, thispersonal body armor improves the damage and critical hits of a player’s ground energy weapons. Radiometric Converting Shields This starship item is slotted into a ship’s shield slot. This starship shield system absorbs theta radiation from incoming attacks and sends the energy directly to your EPS conduits to increase your ships power levels. Multi-spatial Personal Shield This ground item slots into a character’s shield slot. This advanced personal shield system is based on Borg technology and constantly regenerates itself and even a character’s health. TR-116 A player equips this phaser rifle into one of his two ground weapon slots. The TR-116 is rare projectile weapon is used in dampening fields and other challenging environments, it is also modified with a micro-transporter which beams the fired projectiles to targets at close range so that a user can fire without a direct line of site. Red Matter Capacitor A unique item slotted into a ship device slot that charges up and delivers extra energy to all of your ship’s equipment for a short time. The Capacitor has a long recharge. Automated Defense Battery This ship item slots into the Tactical Console slot. Tactical Module that grants the ship a passive 360 arc attack power with a short range. KKKHHHHAAAANNN Emote Players will be able to do the famous Kirk Khan yell from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Bloodwine Toast Emote
This gesture is known throughout the galaxy as a hallmark of Klingon society. http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=40542&page=25
Borg Bridge Officer- You will not be able to change the way she looks. She has some special Racial Traits She has a couple of unique Bridge Officer Skills
TOS Constitution - Federation Player Ship, Light Cruiser Class (just like the normal starter ship) Cannot be customized Has one extra Engineering Modification Slot (this is a device slot) Will have the same Bridge Choices that the normal starter ship does (There is no TOS Bridge)
Joined Trill Playable Race – Normal Trill will be available to everyone to play, However Joined Trill ads a Species Trait that gives you a few extra passive bonuses to your character.
Various Other Weapons and Armor Items - All of these are pretty cool, they will all give you a slight advantage in PVE early on, but you will replace them with higher level items around the time you get to Lt Cmdr.
Can I use multiple Codes -? Yes you can, however you will have to have the retail codes (the ones that come in the box with the physical media) in order to get the items.
What does this mean? - This means you can't pre-order from Amazon get a pre-order code and then cancel your order from Amazon for the actual product and expect to get the item. Will I get extra Game Time for adding extra retail codes if I buy them? The answer is no, the extra codes will unlock the items but you won't get stacking time from the extra retail codes.
That's going to get expensive! Why is it set up like this? We set it up like this so that there are many different options for you to choose from. It makes the items more unique and special when the entire server on day one doesn't have the exact same cool item you do. We allow people to enter extra codes because some people want that option, most people will pick their favorite offer and go with that, however some want a couple of them, and if you can afford it.. More power to you
When will I get my items? Since the items all require retail keys you won’t be able to input those keys until you get them on launch day. This means that if you get the TOS Connie for example along with Head Start Access from Gamestop, you won’t be able to claim your ship until after the official launch. The only exception to this would be the Digital Deluxe Edition. Since that offer is packaged all in one and Digital, there are no returns or refunds for it so those items should be available for you when you log in for the first time during the Head Start program.
Are there more Pre-Order Offers Coming? Nope, what we have up now are all the pre-order offers that I am told we are going to offer. There are still a few cool Promotional Offers we are going to announce that have in game loot attached to them. For instance the Best of DVD that has a code for Star Trek II Era Uniforms for your account.
Why no UK love? – Honestly, I don’t really know what the answer to this is. It isn’t because we want to torture or mistreat our UK players, that I know for sure. It may have something to do with our distribution partners outside of the US, but I really don’t have any details other than that. However this will not stop you from getting someone over here you trust to purchase and send you the codes for the cool stuff. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it is a option you could consider.
Will all my items work across multiple characters on my account? The simple answer to this is yes, unless they are faction specific of course. For instance Klingon characters won’t be flying around in a TOS Constitution, and federation characters will not get a targ.
That’s a wrap on my first bit of info for you, I’ll try to stop by the thread and answer questions when I can. Hope this helps… Look forward to seeing you all in game soon. Last Updated: December 16, 2009 Q: Where can I pre-order? A: Our pre-order partners can be found on our retail page. Q: What about the EU/UK? What about the collector’s edition there? A: Namco/Bandai is handling distribution in the United Kingdom and EU. They are working on various product plans currently. We will post information as we know it. Q: How does the pre-order work? How do I get into Open Beta and the Head Start? A: When you purchase the preorder, you’ll receive a Key that works for Open Beta and Head Start. Keys will either be e-mailed to you or given to you at the store. Each retailer is sending out keys at different times so check with them about timing. Q: Will I receive my retailer exclusives during the Head Start? A: No. The exclusives are tied to the retail product, not to the preorder key. In other words, you’ll need to purchase the full version of the game and input that key. Q: Do the exclusive items stack? Can I get more than one thing? A: Yes, different items stack. So if someone purchased multiple copies of the game from various retailers, he would receive all those items for EACH character created. Included playtime will still stack as well. However, the same bonus does not stack. So if someone purchases from Wal Mart twice, he cannot get two 500 point skill bonuses for the same character. (Each character will get one). Q: If I purchase the game in order to get the retailer exclusive, can I give the code to someone else? A: No. You only receive the retailer exclusive once you redeem the retail code. Once you’ve done that, the code cannot be used again. Q: Will the exclusives be offered as a microtransaction? A: Not at launch, but somewhere down the road we may offer to let people purchases these if they did not pre-order. Q: When is the Head Start? When is Open Beta? A: Open Beta is 1/12/10 – 1/26/10. Head Start is 1/29/10-2/2/10. Q: If I purchase the Digital Deluxe Item from Steam, D2D, etc. will I also receive their retailer exclusives? A: Yes. Q: If I preorder the game, but don’t pick up the retail game, will I be stopped from playing past the Head Start? A: Not right away. We will have a grace period of several days to give everyone the opportunity to pick up the retail copy of the game. Q: How do I get my items? A: After you’ve entered your retail keys(s) and create a character, you’ll enter your first map and immediately see a pop up screen. This will notify you of the item(s) available for you in our C-Store, online microtransaction store. You’ll be able to collect these items for free at any time and they’ll be applied to that particular character.

Ask Cryptic: Klingons part 1: http://www.startrekonline.com/node/784 So it says in the middle that UFP will have a similar PvP levelling process. Meaning the Klinks really are only half done. It's not some master plan. I think Klink missions would be pretty cool to write, though. They aren't stupid, just amped up. Too bad, really.

Growing up, I sat on the floor in front of the TV watching TNG on Sundays and Wednesdays with my family (it was a whole-family event, weekly), and would daydream constantly about captaining a Galaxy-class starship, exploring the cosmos. I will be playing UFP, and will be petitioning Cryptic to add the "Picard maneuver" to the list of emotes.

Man... the Avatar Combat really feels like City of Heroes to me, much more than Pirates. But the Space stuff feels just like Pirates... sure there is Vertical movement but not Dorsal/Ventral shields so it's just for show.

Feuersturmm:I preordered the DDE from Direct2Drive (just had to have the TOS uniforms) so I hope this game will be good. For those in beta, how is the game shaping up? Is it stable? Silky smooth performance? Any show stopping bugs? Btw, anyone know if the more martial looking uniforms from the Kirk era films will be in game? Always preferred those over the Picard era Jumpsuits.
Those red outfits with the shoulder pads? I understand there will be a code for them in the TOS Season 3 Bluray. Here is an amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Original-Season-Blu-ray/dp/B002PQ7JQA
